Vintage Double Snake Ring (R / 8.5)

A snake ring, but with a bit of a plot twist.

At first glance, you’d swear this was antique. It’s been done that faithfully. The proportions, the detailing, the overall presence… it fully captures the look and feel of those classic Victorian-era snake rings. But it’s actually vintage, dating to the 1960s, which in this case is kind of the best of both worlds.

Because while antique snake rings can be a bit… enthusiastic with their gold usage (translation: very heavy, very expensive), this one has been made more thoughtfully. It’s still solid, still has a thick, weighty shank that feels secure and substantial, but the gold has been used more judiciously. So you’re not compromising on feel, just not overpaying for excess.

It’s crafted in 9ct gold, with that gorgeous slightly bourbony undertone you only really get in older alloys. A proper warm yellow that sits beautifully alongside true antique pieces, so it won’t look out of place in a mixed stack at all.

The design itself is a double snake, which is always a win. Two heads meeting, each set with a stone. One white sapphire, one garnet, so you get that subtle contrast. A little flash of light, a little depth of colour.

And then the size. On the finger, it has a spread of 13mm, so it really shows up. This is not a shy ring. It’s chunky, it’s noticeable, it has that slightly clever, slightly cool energy that snake jewellery always seems to carry.

Symbolically, snake rings have long been associated with eternity, rebirth, and enduring love. Queen Victoria famously received one as an engagement ring, which kicked off the whole obsession in the 19th century. This feels like a continuation of that story, just with a 1960s lens.
