This is a seriously special piece: an antique shield locket with a bold slab of carved black agate as its face, set into a back and front 9ct gold body. It’s rare to find antique black jewellery in such good condition, especially something this striking—and with such presence. The agate is immaculate, beautifully carved and unusually large, with a rich, inky depth that sets off the gold like a dream in any stack.
There is some wear to the gold (she’s Victorian—of course she’s seen things), but the overall condition is excellent for age, and the craftsmanship speaks for itself.
Shield motifs in Victorian jewellery symbolised protection, strength, and loyalty—this one wears that symbolism loud and proud. A powerful piece, beautifully made, and very hard to come by.
