Antique Trombone Extender (4.25")

I got my hands on a short, approximately 12-inch length of antique solid trombone chain. It was too short to wear realistically, but the links were far too good to melt (sacrilege!), so I had it divided and reworked into a tiny collection of extenders.

This one combines gloriously chunky, completely solid trombone links with an antique dog clip. It’s fantastic for adding extra length to a chain, but I think extenders are even more useful as styling tools. The trombone section breaks up a simple chain, adds texture and instantly makes a stack feel more individual.

You can also slide the end ring onto a chain and wear the extender as a lariat-style drop, using the dog clip to hold a pendant or jumble of charms. It gives you far more freedom to experiment with your collection, shifting chains to different lengths, separating the layers in a stack or creating entirely new configurations.

I own four or five extenders myself because the right chain length changes depending on what else I’m wearing that day. Even when a chain already fits, an extender can completely transform how it sits and how the whole stack works together.

Part functional finding, part decorative antique jewel, and an extremely useful bit of kit for anyone who enjoys playing with their jewellery.
