9ct Gold
Antique Trombone and Double Lovers Knot Albert (15")
Antique Trombone and Double Lovers Knot Albert (15")
This was an incredibly exciting find. Antique gold chains of this calibre very rarely appear at such an accessible price point, particularly with two of the most desirable link styles: beautifully formed lovers knots alternating with long trombone links.
The chain came to me with several additional links forming a short tail. I’ve had these professionally incorporated into the main body of the chain, bringing it to a more wearable 15 inches while keeping every part original. It remains on the shorter side, sitting beautifully at the base of the neck, but delivers all the impact of a properly chunky antique chain.
Each link is individually stamped, and the chain is finished with two beautiful solid gold dog clips, allowing you to attach a pendant, locket or charm, or simply wear it exactly as it is. The gold has that unmistakable antique 9ct colour, rich and warm with a softly rosy undertone.
Its hollow construction is what makes this remarkable chain possible at its price point. Antique hollow jewellery is very different from the ultra-light hollow pieces often produced today. The walls are comparatively substantial, and this chain has already survived more than a century in fantastic condition. Chains also live a relatively protected life around the neck, without the knocks and pressure experienced by rings or bracelets.
Creating hollow links was skilled, labour-intensive work, especially with the tools available at the time. Examples like this are far scarcer than their solid counterparts. The construction dramatically reduces the gold weight, and therefore the price, without sacrificing the scale, character or visual impact of the chain.
A genuinely one-of-a-kind antique chain, combining rare links, chunky proportions and double dog clips in one gloriously warm gold package.

Please note
The expectation with antique and vintage jewellery is that there will be normal signs of wear commensurate with age eg. scuffs and patina. Lovers of antique and vintage jewellery usually value these things for giving their piece history and character.
I make every effort to clearly list any defects above usual wear, and to take clear photos that represent the item clearly.
The photos constitute part of the description and we ask you view them carefully before purchasing.
