This one has history.
A gorgeous antique front-and-back locket with a compact, satisfyingly thick little form, shaped almost like a shield itself and finished with shield motifs to both sides. One side is framed with beautiful floral engraving, while the reverse is plainer, which gives it a really lovely balance.
The gold has the prettiest warm, slightly chocolatey rose tone and the whole thing feels deliciously old in the hand.
It has quite a lot of genuine age-related wear, including patina, surface wear and some dents, and the two halves no longer sit completely flush when closed. It does still close securely and doesn’t spring open, but I want to note that the alignment isn’t perfect.
For me, though, that’s very much part of the appeal of this one. If you like antique jewellery that feels like it has actually lived a life rather than been polished into oblivion, this is such a gorgeous example. Loads of character, beautiful proportions and a really lovely bit of engraving.
