OH FRIENDS. Every time I get this out of the stock box I just SWOON. You guys know I love me a hunk of 15ct Gold and this chain is just SCREAMING out to me. One of my most treasured finds of the year.
This is a ribbed rolo link chain from the mid-Victorian period, I reckon 1850-1870, and the craftsmanship is genuinely exceptional. The way each link has been formed is intricate, and despite being hand-formed has a precision and elegance you just do not see in modern chain making. Intentional and considered and magnificent.
It is completely solid and gloriously weighty in the hand. The kind of piece that immediately reads as heirloom jewellery. It makes you think of royal portraits and passed-down treasures, rather than something bought on a whim.
Despite its considerable age, the condition is astonishing. It feels box-fresh, with no thinning, no weakness, and no compromises. This is a chain built to last, and it still has decades, if not centuries, of wear ahead of it.
The barrel clasp is tight, secure; giving real peace of mind. It is more than capable of supporting heavy pendants, making it as practical as it is beautiful.
