Antique 1901 High-Carat Heart Padlock

Assayed in Chester (the most exciting assay stamp in my opinion!) in 1901, it comes from a turbulent time in modern history - the world was changing - but some things seem to last and the humble heart padlock is one of them. Almost as common today as it was back in the Victorian times, there is none the less something special about owning a piece that is an "OG." The real deal so to speak. The inspiration for another 100 years of design.

This one is crafted in 15ct gold - the rarest of all the carats - and has lovely proportions, a beautifully softened surface from more than a century of wear, and that irresistible combination of heart symbolism and practical function.

I have always loved padlocks in jewellery. They began life as symbols of loyalty, devotion and enduring affection, designed to represent a bond that was secure and lasting. The heart shape only strengthens that meaning. There is something wonderfully romantic about carrying a tiny golden lock as a reminder of a person, a promise, or simply a chapter of your life that matters to you.

What makes antique padlocks so special is that they have already done over a hundred years of living. This one has survived changing fashions, different owners, entire generations of history, and somehow arrived here still doing exactly what it was designed to do.
