Antique Flattened Trombone and Circle Link (7")

I actually assumed this was modern when I first picked it up, because the link style is just not something you see very often in antique jewellery.

Then I looked more closely and found the antique patent stamp, which made the whole thing make sense. This was clearly a more considered, unusual design at the time, enough so that someone went to the trouble of patenting it.

It takes the classic trombone link and essentially flattens it out, creating this broad, chunky bracelet without the huge weight you’d normally expect from a trombone of these proportions.

The links are also very subtly concave, so it sits beautifully around the wrist rather than feeling rigid or slabby. Because of all those broad polished surfaces, it catches the light brilliantly too, so you get loads of sparkle and presence in a stack.

It’s completely solid and feels really sturdy and substantial, finished with a heart padlock clasp.

As I always say, heart padlocks are one of my favourite bracelet clasps because they’re comparatively easy to put on yourself and they add another little bit of interest and texture to the piece.

A really unusual antique bracelet, chunky without being ridiculously heavy, and such a clever twist on a classic trombone.
