18ct Gold and Diamond
Antique 1892 Claw Set Diamond Ring (O.5 / 7.5)
Antique 1892 Claw Set Diamond Ring (O.5 / 7.5)
One of my favourite ring finds in a while, so that’s saying something.
An antique 18ct gold diamond ring, hallmarked for London 1892, and it just GIVES on every level. Proper, textbook antique in all the ways you want.
The diamond is the headline. Approx 0.8 carats, and it’s bright. Like properly lively, sparkly, catches-the-light-from-across-the-room bright. Yes, it has inclusions, as most antique stones do, but that’s part of the appeal. It gives it character, stops it feeling too perfect, too modern, too… sterile. This feels like a diamond with a life behind it.
The setting is a claw, but not a boring one. The claws have this soft, undulating shape, almost like little bays along a coastline. Slightly scalloped, really elegant, and much more organic than the standard sharp talons you see today. It frames the stone beautifully without overpowering it.
The shank is thick, domed, and incredibly satisfying. Smooth on the inside, so it wears like a dream, but with this lovely ribbed detailing on the top of the shank that adds just enough texture. It’s solid, weighty, reassuring. The kind of ring you put on and immediately trust.
And then the gold. Delicious antique 18ct gold. That luminous, buttery tone everyone is chasing. Rich, deep, almost glowing from within. Not brassy, not harsh.
Proportion-wise, it’s spot on. Goldilocks again. It stacks beautifully if that’s your thing, but it absolutely holds its own worn solo. There’s enough presence to make it feel important without tipping into impractical.
And yes, it would make a stunning engagement ring. I don’t say that lightly, because I’m not usually in my engagement ring era, but this has everything. A beautiful, characterful stone, a setting with real personality, and craftsmanship that’s lasted well over a century and is still going strong.

Please note
The expectation with antique and vintage jewellery is that there will be normal signs of wear commensurate with age eg. scuffs and patina. Lovers of antique and vintage jewellery usually value these things for giving their piece history and character.
I make every effort to clearly list any defects above usual wear, and to take clear photos that represent the item clearly.
The photos constitute part of the description and we ask you view them carefully before purchasing.
